Cheap Newspaper Subscriptions

Newspaper subscription
Around the beginning of the new year I was thinking about how nice it would be to start stockpiling my coupons again and saving money on shopping.  Then I realized that nobody in my family was saving coupons for me anymore and my only option would be to purchase the newspaper every Sunday or get a Sunday only subscription.

So I did my homework and found that newspaper subscriptions are TOO EXPENSIVE!  The cheapest thing I found was a Sunday only subscription for $52 a  year.  Of course, being the frugal person that I am – I started researching.  I ran across this great site that offers cheap newspaper subscriptions at 50% – 75% off!  After all was said and done, I found a paper that offered Sunday only delivery for 50 cents a week.

I’m sure that I can save at least 50 cents a week by using my coupons, so this is definitely a wise decision.  Compare that to the original price which was $1 a week, and I save $26.  Needless to say I am more than happy with my discovery and wanted to share it with anyone who may need coupons or just a cheap newspaper subscription.

Cool. Sounds like an excellent observation, and a pretty straightforward way to be more frugal. :)

save even more by reading the papers online for free :)

I typically read the paper online – but then you don’t get coupons :)

tam – if the newspapers only cost 50c, and you save more than that in coupons, then buying the paper will save you more than reading news online :)

I stopped getting papers a long time ago for coupons. There are so many coupon websites where you can print the ones you need the paper was not needed.

That’s a good idea too, but a lot of stores and not accepting the printable coupons due to fraud. :(

That is a good idea. Not many coupons are available in newspapers we have subscribed

There’s no way anyone should be paying full price for a newspaper subscription. There are just way too many good deals out there.

Saving the flyers that come in the mail are always a good option as well.

Are you aware of any cheap newspaper subscriptions that would mail their Sunday newspaper to out-of-town subscribers?

Newspapers are slowly going to either go away or change up their pricing model… online competition is becoming stiff.

There are many different ways to get the news for free now but if, like my husband, you like to have a paper to read in bed at the weekend, it can be worth looking around for a cheap offer on subscriptions.

I love your approach to this. You were willing to spend a little to save earn more. I think that it just goes to show that you have to be willing to shop around to find the best deals when it comes to newspaper or other types of subscriptions, as buying them direct is often more expensive. Hope you’ve saved lots of money so far!

Worth taking a quick glance through the paper in the shop to see if it is worth buying, unless you want it anyway.

It’s been a sound model for many years. The cheaper the newspaper the more people will find enough value in it to buy it. The more people buy it, the more reach you have, particularly if you’ve seen off any print competition. The more reach you have, the more you can charge for advertising.

I appreciate for sharing this idea. That is truly a great savings in using coupons. If newsletters will be sending more coupons, they would surely get more subscribers.

I think sometimes us “frugal” types let our bottom line cheat us out of a valuable resource. Subscribing to our local papers supports our communities and our local economies. I would have missed many fun family events if I didn’t have a subscription to our paper!

Most of the newspaper companies offer discount newspaper subscriptions to new customers, but not to the existing ones who are renewing their subscriptions. So, when the time for renewal comes, either you can take a new newspaper subscription in someone else’s name in your household. Or, you can cancel your own subscription, and join as a new customer after a few days. Either way, you will save money on Newspaper Subscriptions.

It is surprising how many people buy newspapers from newsstands instead of paying for an actual subscription. When buying from newsstands, smoke shops, convenience stores or newspaper boxes, the price can be as high as a dollar or more for each newspaper. If you were to buy each newspaper individually for a month, you would be paying about twice as much as a newspaper subscription. Even if you only buy a newspaper on weekdays, you’re still paying more than a subscription.
Not only would you be saving money with a subscription, but you would also be gaining convenience. Your newspapers would be delivered right to your door every morning. You wouldn’t have to go out of your way to buy a newspaper somewhere else. Plus there would be no need to scrounge up your change each day.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic is newspaper subscribtions actually became free? Like all over the world. You know they have released those one on the kindle now, theyre more expensive than to buy the paper!

It’s great to have subscription to newspaper, also the discount is really ok.

  28. Benjamin from Sell Old Coins on October 4th, 2011

Tracy’s right. There are a lot of coupons online that you would find if you go looking for them. On a personal note, I think reading the news online is still the best way to get updated since all information is there or just watch the TV. I believe some people though still prefer the traditional way and want to get the printed version but consider the savings!
